Bernice Hynard

GM Print Solutions

Bernice Hynard began her career in the IT industry as a data capturer, steadily working her way up the ladder to her current position as General Manager of Print Solutions at Tarsus Distribution.

Over a career spanning more than 20 years, Bernice has been employed by some of the country’s most prominent ICT businesses including Mustek Pinnacle Micro and Incredible Connection.

Between 1987 and 2015 she assumed a number of divergent roles including sales executive, senior buyer, senior product manager and consumer manager, among others. In 2007, while she was working in strategic buying, planning, and projects at Edcon, she completed an MBA in Retail Sciences and Supply Chain through the University of Stirling in Scotland.

Prior to joining Tarsus Distribution in 2016, she was appointed BI and Planning Executive at Pinnacle, an ICT distribution company that is now part of the JSE-listed parent of Pinnacle and Tarsus Technology Group, Alviva Holdings. From there, she was appointed Managing Director of Printacom, which is now part of Tarsus Distribution.

Although she is an IT generalist, Bernice’s interests have long been in the development of profitable and sustainable businesses, rather than product or sector specific projects. In her current role as GM: Print Solutions she is responsible for maintaining vendor relationships, and the go-to-market strategy for a vibrant print solutions business, which is one of three solutions businesses that Tarsus Distribution is continuing to develop over the next few years. Dedicated and ambitious, Bernice is determined to exponentially grow the SMB and enterprise print client base.

Most recently, Bernice’s team has had great success with long-term transversal contracts for the supply of managed information technology to government, a development she is most proud of, and which represents a step change in the print solutions side of the business.

The pandemic has taught her, she says, that there is no point sweating the small stuff. Her current focus is on maintaining business efficiencies, keeping the basics in place, and focusing on client needs.

An exceptionally creative person who is equally comfortable with facts and figures, Bernice is able to combine these discrete aspects of her personality to think differently and devise unusual solutions to difficult challenges. With a determination to close deals, she does not believe anything “cannot be done”.

At home she is a voracious reader and a fan of science fiction and fantasy, Terry Pratchett being one of her favourite writers and thinkers. She is also a fan of Malcolm Gladwell’s approach to the social sciences.

As a firm believer in lifelong education and observation, she is curious about the world around her and aims to learn something new every day. She also has a keen interest in martial arts which she was involved in for many years.

Her other interests include neurodivergence and neuroplasticity and anything to do with the brain's ability to modify, change, and adapt its structure and function throughout life and in response to experience.
