The 5th of October 2021 marked the launch of not only the launch of Windows 11 but Microsoft Office as well. In this blog, we unpack some of the new features that come with the latest version of Office. Many of these features have been exclusively available to Microsoft 365 for the past few years, until now. NOTE - If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription or are included in your origination's Business or Enterprise license you would have automatically been upgraded.

Microsoft Office

Below we go over only a few of the new features included in Microsoft Office, so if you would like to know more about all the new features, or about upgrading please contact us.

Co-Authoring With Microsoft Office

You can now work with others on the same document in real-time without having to send endless emails and notes. Modern comments allow you to directly tag a fellow co-author in a comment. If the co-author is online at the time, they will receive a notification of the comment. You will also be able to see who is working on the document with you when they are online. Note – this feature is only available for documents saved on OneDrive. (You can sign up for the OneDrive Basic 5 GB plan)

Visual Refresh & Teams

Having been launched together, Microsoft Office has been treated with the same visual refresh as Windows 11. The design team has focused the overall look and feel to inspire creativity and promote productivity using calming and soothing neutral tones and rounded corners on the windows.

Another shared feature is the inclusion of Microsoft Teams in Office. This means that you no longer need to download Teams separately. This version of Teams aims at keeping you connected with friends and family while fostering new connections.

Powered up design tools

You now have access to an entire online library of stock images and icons that can use used to take your next presentation or document to the next level. Gone are the days of needing to look for images, saving them out and importing them. This new feature allows you to easily search and import a stock image that matches your subject in just a few clicks. In addition, you now have access to an improved live draw feature, that can also be recorded in your next presentation. Lastly, you can now use hex values, or import your own values for the exact colour you need.

Auto-save With Microsoft Office

With the autosave feature, you don’t have to worry about pressing Ctrl+S every 2 min to ensure your document is saved. As its name indicated, the feature autosaves your document as you work saving you time and grey hairs. Microsoft Office has also included support for saving out to Open Document Format (ODF).

Excel update

A total of 9 new functions have been included in Microsoft Office such as filter, unique, sort by and Xlookup. If you work with or have worked with the Vlookup function, you will appreciate how much the Xlookup function has simplified the formula. In addition, Xlookup can now reference columns left and right, meaning you don’t have to worry about column order anymore.

As we mentioned earlier, these are just a few of the new features included in Microsoft Office. If you want to know more, please get in touch with us and we will go through all of the other great features that come with upgrading to the latest version of Office.
