Pre-sales Engineer - TD - JHB

Purpose of the Role:

To provide pre- and post-sales technical support for specific products as well as solutions architecture, which promotes a positive image of the company.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Provide pre-sales technical support

  • Respond to email and telephonic queries from a variety of stakeholders, establishing technical requirements.
  • Access relevant information from various sources to build an appropriate solution.
  • Use knowledge and experience to explore variables, which may affect practical implementation, including any requirements to integrate with older technology.
  • Provide information on “in-house” equivalents to competitor solutions; by checking specifications to propose an accurate match.
  • Ensure that all components have been included to achieve a successful implementation.

Provide a technical service

  • Provide telephonic advice on resolution of technical problems experienced, using Product knowledge to troubleshoot appropriately.
  • Attend to technical faults on equipment brought to the offices, find and repair the faults or assist in contacting the Vendor for final resolution if required.
  • Provide advice to various internal stakeholders, including “TBay” and “Configuration centre” on appropriate technical solutions and resolution of technical problems experienced, making site visits as appropriate.

Provide after sales support

  • Provide guidance to customers on implementation of solutions, conducting fault finding as required.
  • Advise customers who to engage with to resolve technical problems experienced with the Product by referring them to an appropriate provider.
  • Check compliance with the relevant policies and procedures for guarantee periods.

Design technical solutions

  • Plan new technology solutions for Re-Sellers/Clients, analysing requirements with due consideration to location, staff numbers and other relevant factors.
  • Use knowledge of broader technological implications to formulate a solution, which is workable and efficient.
  • Use Product guidelines and other information accessed to recommend the appropriate technology.

Facilitate Product knowledge

  • Present information regarding technical capability to Re-Sellers and internal stakeholders at various forums to enhance product knowledge.
  • Conduct training workshops on technical functionality for new staff, as required. Use online resources and specification sheets to inform content of presentation.

Manage self-development

  • Agree individual development plan annually with the BU Manager, focusing on skills gaps identified in performance discussions.
  • Attend training scheduled according to the development plan, demonstrating skills and knowledge acquired.
  • Ensure that functional knowledge is relevant and continually updated.
  • Attend Vendor training on products, achieving technical certification (specific to vendor) necessary for work to be conducted.
  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of all aspects related to Product in terms of its technical attributes.

Education

A+ and N+ or National Diploma in Information Technology or Electronics.

  • Various Industry applicable certifications.

Experience

5 years + technical experience in the IT field.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Detailed Technical knowledge of Wired and Wireless Networking Concepts and Design; Security concepts and design.
  • Ability to architect, design and implement computer network infrastructure solutions.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to focus on high-level design and planning by selecting the appropriate data communications components and configuring them to meet user and corporate needs.
  • In depth product knowledge.
  • Presentation skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based with standard business hours (some flexibility may be required).
  • May be required to work overtime occasionally depending on business needs.
